What he said. That's brilliant, Damian. Great job!

Top stuff from you as well, Pat. 25th is not shabby at all. And Bruce in at 18th. Surely that's worth more than 1 point?

Well done to the Phoenix heroes that so successfully tackled the mud and strong fields! Particularly impressive given the conditions as Damian and Pat didn't have a pit bike and Bruce doesn't like running.

:D A bit surprised by that! Hope the provisional results stick like all that mud did!

Gutted to have missed all the fun but I was knackered from the two days before and the midnight discovery of a seized BB on bike number 1 didn't help. We enjoyed watching and supporting. Back on it next weekend...

Neil - Was looking to you for a top 10 finish. I thought you'd be good on that surface after a good showing at Derby.

I'd love to give Bradford another go but it's looking unlikely I can get away for the weekend. However, my entry is in for Abergavenny. Will probably warm up for that at Welwyn rather than Derby...

Entered for Abergeveny but can't justify cost and time away to do Derby when is a race so close as Welwyn

Come on guys, you know you need to do Derby to get some practice in for Abergavenny, Welwyn just isn't the same. Though at least you won't spend the week trying to put the bike back together ahead of the Champs. The pressure washer will be present at both events as both look set to be mudfests

I like mud, me ;-) Still haven't thawed out from Ipswich yet.

And surely if we have Stven, then we also have Neils, no?

Sorry I'm sat on a train bored.

Tweet from Abergavenny RC tonight:

"Just with 4 bikes grass is already cutting up, so what’s it going to be like with 550 racing on it?!!!"

Hog Hill would have been good practice then

National CX Champs and Trophy

Post by BruceMackie » Mon Jan 05, 2015 2:31 pm

Hog Hill turned out to be of little benefit as we turned up to a frozen course in Derby on Sunday. I stated on the lhs to try and move up on the first corner. I even checked out the outside of the corner to see how easy it was to ride off line. It all turned out to be worthwhile as, with the help of Mick Bell, I managed to convert my 3rd row grid to 3rd place. I managed to hold it for oh, at least 1/8 of a lap before I started loosing ground and ended up going round just behind Mick in a decent top 10 position. That was until i failed to clip in properly after the sandpit on the 2nd lap and kicked over one of my cantis jamming the back wheel which meant I lost a few places. After that things started to unravel a bit as I crashed heavily avoiding a V40 back marker on a muddy section that didn't suit the file treads. With the course thawing out I headed to the pits to swop to a bike shod with Rhinos but not before having another crash with a V40 back marker (which was when Neil went by) whilst recovering from that crash I got my revenge by blocking one of the V40 leaders. The planned change to muds seemed like a sound plan but the Derby weather had a trick up its sleeve and freezing fog moved in and the mud turned to ice again. I carried on regardless and managed to claw back a couple of places coming in just behind Neil who was having his own problems staying upright. By the afternoon everything had thawed so it was business as usual though Cal only had to do 1 lap changes rather than the half lap last year, so the pressure washers were kept busy.

Good luck to all the intrepid racers heading to Abergavenny with brave hearts and high hopes. I know every one of you will make the club proud.

I will be thinking of you.

But I won't be envying you.
