Haha don't worry, hopefully with 5 pages somebody will think "ah this must be popular and easy i'll sign up" without reading the previous 5 pages.

I even dreamed about doing the SDW last night:
Somehow I was ahead of the Phoenix group and was pleased to when I thought I'd reached Eastbourne where I ended up in a giant Tesco. After a while, I started looking for the others, and then saw them go past the Tesco store. It turned out that I hadn't reached Eastbourne yet, but only a tiny village with a large shopping centre, and I still had to ride over the Seven Sisters.
After arrival, we relaxed in a hot-air balloon that was up in the air, but attached to the ground. We had our own waiter, who from time to time would climb down a ladder to fetch us glasses of wine and beer. :)

I think Astrid should organise this trip. Sounds much more lively.

+1 for astrids trip..

Seriously though, sdw in one/two days unsupported is on my list for the year, just not as part of the sportif. Should there be two threads?

Astrid, can you start a new thread for your dreams? There must be some more good ones for you to share with us...

Not so sure about Astrid's hanging out at Tesco's, but I might be tempted by the real thing.

But there too, the question is whether it's a good idea to do it as part of an organised sportive with lots of people trying to get along the same paths at the same time, rather than doing it DIY-style another weekend? Maybe worse for provisioning, but easier traffic-wise.

Ive never done it as a sportive but nor would I want to. I suppose the main advantage is you're less likely to get lost but its much nicer to do it with some friends with provisions in the jersey pocket.

That's my feeling, too. For the navigation, it should be possible to find a GPX file somewhere. The size of the jersey pockets might be the limiting factor!

What about a DIY version on the Sunday (July 5)? There might even be some signposts still up. And Steven could get back from the Kraftwerk gig, sleep off the drugs and join in.

Would you be interested in that, Will, or are you hell-bent on the package holiday?

I know, but I am a bit worried about getting motion sick on Astrid's hot air balloon, so I'd much rather do it in one day and go home!
