You'll have to withdraw - you've got disc brakes.

at anywhere up to 100kg there's no way I'd ride on anything but discs otherwise I'd have the same stopping ability as a frigate.

I don't think bike changes should be allowed.Damian Robertson wrote:Hmm, knew someone would mention something like that. As something of a pro he needs all the advantages he can get! He even has road bikes for the err road sections, which I think is a bit out of order. Yeh, pros and a funny breed of amateurs need every advantage they can get. As for you Chris, I doubt we've heard the last on discs from you! Wouldn't wish to see an end to the disc wars! Highly amusing.
Nick Craig has won the race using the same bike throughout (and cantis).

And flat bars. (Then they changed the rules)Astrid Wingler wrote:I don't think bike changes should be allowed.Damian Robertson wrote:Hmm, knew someone would mention something like that. One of the charming features of this event, I found, are the seemingly quaint and random rules they make up and the determinedly Northern and old school feel of the whole thing

Actually, Nick Craig also won with curly handl bars in 2011 - after they changed the rules (altough Jebby didn't compete that year).

People need to pay by next Weds, I think. Out of 650 there are bound to be a few who don't go through with it. Fingers crossed you'll hear some good news then.WillBeresford wrote:Waiting List. Not sure if it's worth going up. Potentially as I can stay at a mates though.

Re: 3 Peaks - 27th Sep
So this is my weekend's entertainment. I should probably be slightly better prepared but I have at least bought some new shoes and changed my tyres!
Anyone got any suitable tips / scare stories for me?

Re: 3 Peaks - 27th Sep
- Have you fixed some pipe lagging around your top and seat tubes to make carrying (or should that be "portage") a bit more comfortable?
- Don't forget to eat on the road sections.
- Queue up at the start line early and close to the front (ignore the signs with estimated finish times). If I remember correctly, starting on the right hand side of the road is best.
I don't really have any scare stories to tell. It's all rather good fun apart from the descent down Whernside. Enjoy!

Re: 3 Peaks - 27th Sep
Theres too much walking/trudging. I cramped badly on every road section when I was expecting to recover (and I never cramp normally). Probably because I was using muscles that don't normally get asked to do much. So do lots of running and carrying training between now and the race. Oh
And you will have to "run" i.e. walk some of the descents too as it wastes too much energy jumping off and on every 5 seconds. You will almost certainly go over the bars too.
Don't listen to Astrid, the descent off Whernside is by far the best bit. And you have to ride the steps. Because they're there.
And fit bar-mounted levers. You will want to hold the bars at the top on some of the descents (Pen-Y-Ghent in particular) but it will be too bumpy to change hand position. So you will be f*cked.
Hope this is helping.....
