I carried on after the feed stop assuming the group would soon catch me. Made my first wrong turning at 70km (!) and then made up my own route back to hq. including some nice byway, some field edges, a leap across a rather deep ditch and a short TT. 3:32 for 88km. An entertaining day out

Tour Of The Cornfields 6th September 2015
We'd like to have caught you, but the fools wouldn't leave me behind so that slowed the pace a bit (plus we stopped for tea and cake and a chat), then Dan decided to entertain us with a somersault over bars that somehow left him lying on his back in a field holding two bananas, followed a short time later by puncturing allowing us a little time to sit in the sun.
A tough ride - at one point the bumps were so bad I couldn't feel anything below my elbows, and I've now got blisters all over my hands despite wearing gloves.
Big thanks to John J for towing me the last 20k.

Not feeling 100%, I let a gap open up around 10 miles in. However, I paid for it when we turned into some single track and I got stuck behind some novices, watching the red train disappear in the distance. I was happy to ride at my own pace for a while, picking my way through stragglers, until my freewheel seized. Not wishing to do the remaining 40 miles on a fixed gear, I called it a day. Quite fortuitously this happened to be just 2 miles from the start, so I hobbled in easily enough.
Many thanks to Hackney GT for resurrecting this event. It was always one of my favourites.

Yeah, that was good fun. Chris there was no way we were going to leave you with 50km to go. Although apologies for then doing just that with 20km to go; I just couldn't resist chasing that pair and by the time I realised you weren't there I couldn't see you. Had a good chat with one of them. Turns out he's a North Road member and knows Bryan, John, Dave K, etc. Surprised they weren't there, actually.

I hope you all enjoyed it, it was a beast to organise, luckily for us Michael Humphreys did all the hard work, setting the course, sorting Wimpole Hall & the pile of paperwork/risk assessments/police approvals etc. I just went round with a staple gun nailing very small red and blue arrows to anything that didn't move. A testing course. Definitely ran out of gas in the last 10km, but seem to have escaped unscathed with no hand blisters or other injury (cue Dan McQ), and legs feel surprisingly OK today too. A great day out in perfect riding conditions despite a chilly start. Well done from me to Bruce, Russ and the HGT chaps. They did a super job
