Whilst there is no need to have a CX bike for Round Three in London, it is a requirement to have two brakes, a helmet and shoes that will not slip when dismounting for obstacles. Road cleats will be too slippery, especially if it rains

Re: Rapha Supercross 2015
A London League Commissaire who has to remain nameless told me that they're not allowed to use the grass as the land owners don't want a mess. I suspect any obstacles will be made-made...Stuart wrote:
I have a feeling (and desire) that it will involve natural or man-made obstacles and off-road sections so a road bike may be far from optimal
Unfortunately I am unavailable having entered a grass motorway crit at a municipal park in Kettering. For me it's all about the glamour...

Thats not what Steven said. I don't believe for a moment it will be all tarmac - sand, astroturf, cobbles, mud and other surfaces are all possible. And I'm sure based on past experience the course will have plenty of "features"How can one have cross without grass?

Okay, for clarity, from another source:Stuart wrote:Thats not what Steven said. I don't believe for a moment it will be all tarmac - sand, astroturf, cobbles, mud and other surfaces are all possible. Hmm, unless there's sand then its not actually cyclocross is it? Anyway, Im sure it will be fun and a good excuse to run file treads.Okay, for clarity, from another source:

Re: Rapha Supercross 2015
I don't think it even claims to be cyclocross - I thought it was billed as 'citycross' as in the Morvelo events (and run by the same organiser).

Well there is still judicious use of the word cross all over the event so I'm sure it won't be a crit

I'd be a lot more ambivalent about it if it wasn't under the 'Supercross' banner.

Re: Rapha Supercross 2015
Maybe "supercross" is the way to go in terms of spectacle and participation. Personally, I prefer the traditional "cyclocross" (I'd obviously ban disc brakes too). I'd also be concerned about how safe that kind of supercross is. Being knocked off by an over-eager male vet while I wobble along slowly over some soft surface is one thing, for that to happen on tarmac is something quite different.

Re: Rapha Supercross 2015
Aside from the disc brake remark (and we both know Thomas doesn't agree on that one) it's a circus. I think the spectacle angle is probably the way forward but not the concrete/tarmac.

Re: Rapha Supercross 2015
Hipster novelty city race then? The fact they've had to remind people that they must have brakes is a bit of a giveaway as to who they're expecting to attend.
I hope there's a longest skid & a best man-bun competition.
Right, I'm off to my artisanal cereal cafe...
