Hmmm, yeah. West Glebe Park, Corby. I got away with it here last year when, as Neil's illustration above suggests, many people were beset by "equipment failures". Maybe I used up too much luck as today didn't go quite as well.

So um, yeah. Just like the Southern Trains timetable, mud, twigs and leaves can play havoc with a bike. After half a lap the wheels wouldn't spin and and I was off the bike digging all manner of detritus from between the forks and frame. Repeat several times to the end of lap two, add to the mix a stuck derailleur and the school boy error of forgetting to add studs to my shoes and you have a bit of a problem. That was the point I weighed up making the spare bike equally filthy and the likelihood of breaking something expensive or adjourning for a cuppa. I chose the latter. A four hour round trip for approx 15 mins of racing. Oh how we laughed. Not the greatest day out.

Poor Toon Aerts and Laurens Sweeck had to go all the way to Italy for a miserable day out. Maybe Corby ain't so bad.

I did manage to secure a box of cat food on the way home which not only pleased the cat but also gave me a tiny amount of room for manoeuvre when my kit came out of the washing machine and left a trail of dirt, grass and leaves across the utility room.

See below for proof I did make it onto the course for a few moments. The wheels were still spinning at this point...

Well I snapped 1 mech and 1 mech hanger on 2 separate bikes. Both in exactly the same place as Neil.

MK bowl today which I always like. Must have upset the grid gods though - I've never, ever, been gridded that far back. Dumb course design sees the full pack go up the hill and straight into a bit of singletrack. So we stood around and had a bit of a chat and waited our turn to go through one by one. By this point my enthusiasm had deserted me and I was seriously considering stopping. Anyway, got my head down and after a couple of laps I spotted Kev C (formerly of this parish). I caught him and put a move on him that would have made Stuart blush - thought it might make the journey home uncomfortable but he was ok about it after. Having passed him there was then no way to retire so I had to keep going. Very pleased I'd put the studs in 5 minutes before the start as we had one big greasy run per lap where I was able to make up time. Results say 24th which is by some distance my best result of the season, and from such a lousy start too, so pretty happy with that.

Will and Neil to post match reports - I didn't see Will there, but saw his result.

Roll on tomorrow!
