Re: Beastway!
Get well soon Bruce.
Simon, on the 28th I can do 'something' but I won't be able to get there much before sign on time to do the really useful things like setting up. Of course I can assist with take down and any general menial duties. What about Phoenixers who want to race? I do too but will forego the fun for the greater good. Would feel miffed if watching others having the fun. I will endeavour to get there as early as possible though.

Earlier the better but 7pm would do fine or even 7.15 at a push with your running shoes on!danielwolman wrote:What time would we need to be there to marshal Simon?

Re: Beastway!
I know. Would've been SO much easier if they hadn't screwed it up so badly. We'd have 20 marshals and 250 people racing every week. I reckon even just the 20 marshals would keep knocking each other over at the Olympic park thoughChris Clague wrote:I probably can get there 6-6:15 if I can can blag use of my wife's scooter to escape the city at reasonable speed.
Hog hill much tougher to organise but at least it's on. Anyone else? Spread the word!

Ok great Chris/ Douglas - don't worry any help is great.Chris Clague wrote:I probably can get there 6-6:15 if I can can blag use of my wife's scooter to escape the city at reasonable speed.
Douglas the idea is on the day we Marshal NO ONE from Phoenix races. If you can get there to race you can marshal. You get given your average points for the day you marshal anyway if you race other races. So the idea is you don't lose out by marshalling

Willing to ask re WFH for 28 but will only know on Tuesday. Count me as a maybe.

Re: Beastway!
Fantastic organisation and course last night, the rain held off, to make it an hour-long smashfest. Good to meet Simon and Doug, and thanks to James for the continual encouragement.
It was a hard course though, with lots of variation and I think there's about 60 people waking up with bruised kidneys this morning if my aches and pains are anything to go by, from the continual battering over the long rutted grassy bits. As usual, you spend an hour in the red zone thinking "why why why faster faster faster" and then immediately after want to do it all again!
It has done nothing to discourage N+1 feelings for a short travel carbon race 29er...

Re: Beastway!
Was great fun at Beastway, my first MTB race in over a year since my injury..... forgot how hard is it hacking around Hog Hill, but great fun. Looking forward to improving over the coming weeks.
I was a bit rushed on the night with a late arrival and did not have time to socialise much. Good to see a few Phoenix jersey's in the field.
I am in for Marshalling next week, so will catch up with all then
p.s. Results are up http://beastwaymtb.wordpress.com/results/

Re: Beastway!
A problem with the ancient Beastway computer saw me spending yesterday immersed in a lot of bits of paper and numbers, finally a reliable result (I hope) emerged. The Beastway system will hopefully behave next week, or be replaced with CrossMgr.
The event seemed to go well in that everyone enjoyed themselves (in the context of Stan's report) and seemed to appreciate the work that Michael Humphreys and the team have put into trail bashing. Hopefully as the weeks progress the organisation will get a bit slicker. Keeping the entry prices as low as possible + producing decent challenging courses that change each week will hopefully keep good numbers of riders making the effort to get out to Redbridge which is essential to keep the facility open for all of us. For what it's worth the series needs to have at least 65-75 senior entries to finance it's self after all costs are covered (everyone is working on it voluntarily, not even taking PDs) so please can you all help by promoting the series by clicking 'likes' of Facebook (there is a Facebook group; https://www.facebook.com/groups/527108233993954/ and also a website http://www.beastwaymtb.com) Russ has plenty of flyers so if anyone can think of somewhere that could do with a pile please let us know.

Re: Beastway!
Arse. That'll teach me to get over my fear of riding on grass (two prior bad accidents on grass) and going into the last corner practically last. Massive well done to Doug especially.
Still, I got back up a bit and now my tubeless front has sealed so I've saved a few grams so hopefully at least a top 20 in two weeks.
Thanks for posting Bruce. I'm putting out a few updates via Twitter and FB, and a positive report is out to a few mates in the sport/trade so I'd hope that further rounds might have more attendees.

Re: Beastway!
Well done to the organisers and helpers on the day. Fantastic.
Nice to have made your acquaintance Stan and good to see Simon again, and many others. That was quite a return after four years out. So much lost 'form', muscles and stamina. Finishing was like winning so I am dead chuffed. Thanks for the encouragement Stan and Simon.
It was very strange getting back into a race prep mind frame and there were some serious psychological hurdles to over come as I went round. These were all based on the question - Am I pushing myself to hard? I nearly packed after lap 1 and seriously considered it halfway through lap 3. I have to watch the HRM like a hawk and if the wrong numbers come up it's better to bail than over do it. I am hoping the self doubt will morph into self belief as I get 'fitter'.
I will post my 'numbers' here because I am not keeping a record anywhere else.
My 5 heart zones are.
# Zone Name Zone % BPM Zone Floor Mid Zone BMP Zone Ceiling
5 Red-Line 100 157 165 173 Calculated max based on age/ weight/ health etc
4 Threshold 90 139 147 156
3 Aerobic 80 122 130 138
2 Temperate 70 105 113 121
1 Healthy 60 86 95 104
Max observed on the day 170
Average on the day 157
KCAL used 894
Cups of tea 1
Slices of carrot cake 1
Left in the tank 0/100
See you next week.

Re: Beastway!
Just a reminder about marshaling tomorrow night. Get there around 6.30pm is good but before 7pm should be fine. Grab a radio and check with Bruce or Russ Jones where they need you. Wear something Phoenix if you can. So to confirm
1. Stan - helping set up
2. Daniel W
3. Edwin
4. Chris
5. Harvey ( I think)
6. Douglas
7. Helen?
8. Jason W
Is that everyone?

Re: Beastway!
I'm ok to marshall tomorrow. Have no visible signs of Phoenix apart from the tatooes on my biceps obv. Will leave Brixton around 4pm, will be there as soon as the traffic gods allow. Hope that is OK.
Better to have raced and lost, than never to have raced at all.
