European Championships - Women’s Mountain Biking Final - Jol
Just watched on BBC i-player Swiss Jolanda Neff trouncing the competition and winning Gold by a good minute and a half. Flippin ‘eck. Awesome to watch such high cadence riding and relentlessly smooth negotiation of a tough and technical (imho) course. Note the unfailing smile, white kit and matching pearl necklace and earrings, very stylish, although I’m surprised the latter are allowed! We don’t see that in the men’s races, yet anyway.
She’s away to Canada now to presumably do a repeat performance.

Quite aside from the skillz, her w/kg are extraordinary.

We (MTBR's) should be posting more of these to get you roadie's to understand what an easy life you have
The last round was the only one where Schurter has come second this year, and on the 18% climb Red Bull TV had a staff member sprint beside Nino as he ascended... he couldn't keep up. The way they carry their speed and use their power is pretty jaw dropping.
Edit: what a great video!. For me personally my continuing education on power/physiology here went upon a few notches. I'm also training based on muscular speed endurance, and those 15 second maximal intervals - I'm achieving 14w/KG on the latter currently so thats even better thank she is - so its nice to see where that fits into XC racing.
And she just did 4 mins at 10w/KG flipping' 'eck...

Was in France for their DH nationals the other week. There was a huge deluge at the start and it was utter carnage. Saw some of the women’s race and half of them ended walking back up the mountain to look for their bikes. Daft thing was they knew the storm was coming so they moved the event forward, then the storm came early. By mid afternoon it was scorching hot again and the ground was largely dry.

Now would be a good time to jump on Red Bull TV's website and watch the recording of the womens race - wow, what a performance by Jolanda! A hugely exciting race, right to the end.

That was the best mountain bike race I have ever watched - possibly one of the best bicycle races full stop. All the top riders had something to win / loose in that one race’s result and boy did they fight for it. The drama was non-stop! It really showed how determination and mental fortitude makes a winner, not just fitness and skill! Brilliant.

World Champs on the 5th, can't wait to see that.
RBTV have done a really good job of bring MTB to the masses, especially the women's racing. Can't wait to watch the next race - probably Nino's swan song as its going to be harder for him next year I think, with MVDP catching up and Sam Gaze back.

I totally echo what Stan and Jack said. I made the mistake of watching it whilst eating lunch and gave myself indigestion. Top-notch, thrilling stuff!
